If attorney is not responding to calls or e-mails can you file a motion to seek help from the judge?

I would talk to the bar association and probalby another lawyer. I'm sure you're sick of them, but they'll know how to sink this guy and get your money back. He could lose his practice and get throw in jail.

They are only required to report if you are going to hurt your self, or somebody else (children, dependents, etc.)
At one point I was afraid to tell counselors certain information – but, that is what you need to do to get real help – especially with mental health. You are only as sick as your secrets and therapists can't help you if you are not honest. I am now comfortable with telling my therapist things but I had to start. I have told therapists of using elicit drugs and they deal with that every day. Why would they want to report you when addiction is a treatable medical disease? Looking at it another way – they would make money treating you….so what would it serve them to call the police?
In my situation, I did admit smoking pot to my doctor and was taking an antidepressent. He didn't react badly at all and told me to monitor it, but said it wasn't a good idea. On the other hand, I saw a Mental Health Nurse practitioner once at Kaiser that freaked out about it and said absolutely no pot, but still prescribed my meds.
